“Maré” (“Tide” in English) is an EP that unites music from the African diaspora, inspired by his time in the rural parts of his Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Since childhood, he’s frequented Jabóticatubas, a small town located just over 1 hour from the main capital of Belo Horizonte, where you can find various waterfalls surrounded by deep forest. To this day, many parts of the city does not have cell service. The lead single “Jabó” pays homage to the city of Jabóticatubas where the song’s drums mimic someone passing through the deep bush with birds signing in the background. “Paraiso” is an Amapiano track that fits well with rural life in Brazil and “Olinda” is VHOOR’s take on House Music combined with the Northeastern traditional and folkloric dance music of Forro/Baião. The last track “Voo” is VHOOR’s attempt to mix elements of UK Garage with Baião, always searching for ways to present a mix of musical styles from around the world, that still would make sense for a casual listener. “Maré” is another example of VHOOR’s versatility and his desire to always insert Baile Funk or other Brazilian rhythms within the context of global electronic music.
